Fallen tree knocks out power to 5K

More than 5,000 customers in parts of Carbon and Schuylkill counties were without power after a tree fell on a power line Thursday afternoon.

PPL regional affairs director Carol Obando-Derstine said the incident occurred at 1:55 p.m. when a tree fell on a power line in the mountains between a Hauto substation and Lansford.

As of 10 a.m. today, Obando-Derstine said two water towers off Route 54 near the Hauto substation by the lake were still without power.

She said they do not have an estimated restoration time for the two water towers.

Obando-Derstine said a total of 5,229 customers were impacted throughout the boroughs of Lansford, Summit Hill and Coaldale.

As of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, she said 2,889 customers had their power restored.

The other 2,338 customers had their power restored as of 12:30 a.m., Obando-Derstine said.
