Severe thunderstorm ripping through Monroe

At 1035 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Mount Pocono, moving southeast at 45 mph. Another potentially severe storm was located near White Haven, also moving southeast at 45 mph.

The storm could bring 60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail, possibly causing damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines.

Locations impacted include Mount Pocono, East Stroudsburg, Tobyhanna, Wind Gap, Stormville, Brodheadsville, Kunkletown, Werry Lake, Pocono Pines, Gilbert, Pocono Raceway, Lake Harmony, Delaware Water Gap, Tannersville, Mountainhome, Alpine Mountain, Rossland, Long Pond, Albrightsville

and Hernyville.

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

In addition to damaging winds, frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
