Agencies work together to better court reports

Carbon County’s prison population committee is working to better serve county agencies in the court system.

On Wednesday, Warden Timothy Fritz told the county prison board that the prison population committee reviewed the reports that the prison can create, as well as policies that are in place to see how they could be updated to provide additional information.

The prison officials partnered with adult probation to tweak reporting since the two entities work hand-in-hand when it comes to inmates during and after sentencing.

An official from Northampton County also spent the day helping to set up some new options for reporting, which Fritz said seem to have a lot more detail that will help as the county moves forward.

In other matters, Sheriff Anthony Harvilla, county prison board president, sent the board a letter from the state Department of Corrections about the success the State Intermediate Program is having with those with drug-related offenses.

The program is a 24-month flat criminal sentence that utilizes multiple treatment levels to combat a person’s drug and alcohol addictions and transition them back into society.

District Attorney Jean Engler said the county would be very happy to recommend the appropriate people for this program, but there are only a limited number of people who qualify.
