Penn’s Peak among nominees for Academy of Country Music award

Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe has been nominated for an Academy of Country Music award.

The facility is one of five nominees for the Venue of the Year - Small Capacity, in the Industry Award and Studio Recording division for the 53rd Academy Of Country Music Awards.

Lynn Stelling, special events manager at Penn’s Peak, said the entertainment venue is humbled by the nomination.

“We were incredibly honored to have them recognize us, and to be nominated as the only venue in Pennsylvania is certainly exciting as well,” Stelling said. “As far as the venue itself being the all wood interior, the friendliness of the staff, the whole vibe of Penn’s Peak certainly lends itself to a country music hall.”

Stelling noted that since the facility opened 15 years ago with Brad Paisley, it has helped kick-start the careers of several prominent country music stars.

“We have launched a lot of up-and-coming careers, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, the list goes on about young country stars that have come through this venue,” she said. “Especially to be recognized for country music means a lot.”

Stelling said the venue has “lots of great country acts coming up in the coming months.”

Other nominees for the award include Aura, of Portland, Maine; The Georgia Theater, Athens, Georgia; Iron City; Birmingham, Alabama; and Starland Ballroom, Sayreville, New Jersey.

The winners will be celebrated at the 12th Annual ACM Honors on Aug. 22 at Nashville’s Historic Ryman Auditorium as part of an evening dedicated to recognizing the special honorees and off-camera category winners from the 53rd ACM Awards.

The event is open to the public.
