Lehighton pool celebrates 10-year anniversary of reopening

It was a decade ago that Baer Memorial Swimming Pool in Lehighton experienced a rebirth.

In honor of that occasion, the Lehighton Area Pool Pals have planned a celebration to mark the 10-year anniversary of the pool’s reopening.

The event will take place at noon on May 26 in conjunction with the kickoff the summer swimming season, according to Mark Hoffman, president of Lehighton Area Pool Pals.

As always, Hoffman said the first day of the swimming season is free.

To help make this year’s opening day even more special, Hoffman said the Pool Pals have invited various special guests and dignitaries back to join in the reopening anniversary celebration.

Throughout the event, Hoffman said the Pool Pals will be offering a minimum of 300 free hot dogs and water to those attending.

He said that starting at 1 p.m. and continuing every 10 minutes after, a total of 10 free season passes will be awarded to children in recognition of the 10-year anniversary, courtesy of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lehighton.

Hoffman said TNT Dance Studio students will lead in a lively dance routine. Stevie Ray Entertainment will be on hand for the day’s events, providing music for everyone’s swimming and listening pleasure, he said.

“As much as the Pool Pals would have loved to send a personal invite to everyone who contributed to the revitalization and sustainability of the pool, they quickly realized the list would be next to impossible to put together without missing someone based on the enormous number who have helped in many ways,” Hoffman said. “Saying this, the Pool Pals would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt invitation for opening day to all corporations, businesses and individuals who supported the Pool Pals and the pool over the past 10-plus years.”

Hoffman said the various contributions allowed the refurbished pool to become a reality and flourish, supporting the Pool Pals’ mission statement of “Creating Lifetime Memories” for the young and old.

Anyone wishing to share a memory or say a few words at the opening day ceremony should contact Hoffman at 610-554-6635 to be added to the agenda.

Other events this year at the pool will include Alumni/Prior Lifeguards and Pool Managers Day on June 17; Family Fun Day/Night on July 14, and the first “Dive In” co-sponsored with the Lehighton Downtown Initiative on Aug. 4.

There will also be a minimum of 10 nightly swims allowing patrons of the pool to swim under the lights.

Anyone with a season pass is eligible for these special events at no added charge.
