One killed in Schuylkill crash Wednesday

One person was killed in a one-vehicle crash Wednesday in Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said the crash occurred about 8 p.m. along Route 1005 in North Union Township.

Troopers said Dominic Mott IV, 24, of Hazleton, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic northbound when he lost control due to the wet road and rain conditions. The vehicle went onto the left side berm and initially impacted several large rocks.

This caused the vehicle to overturn several times. During the rollover a rear-seat passenger was ejected from the vehicle. The victim, whose name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene by a county deputy coroner.

Mott and another passenger, Ceara Correia-Fitzgerald, 20, also of Hazleton, were injured and taken to area hospitals for treatment.

Assisting troopers at the scene was the state police Troop L reconstruction unit, forensic services unit, East Union Township police, and volunteers from the Sheppton-Oneida and Nuremberg fire companies.

The roadway was closed for several hours until the crash was investigated and cleared. The investigation is continuing, troopers added.
