Blue Mountain is planning to construct a new ski trail

Blue Mountain Ski Area is hoping to construct a new ski trail at its resort in Palmerton.

On Tuesday, Ivan O. Meixell Jr., Carbon County planner, updated the county planning commission on his review for the resort’s Department of Environmental Protection permit application for the project, which is a requirement for the application.

The ski resort is proposing a new recreational ski/ride trail on the eastern portion of the resort. The trail would be accessed through the Comet Quad Ski Lift and connect to the existing Paradise trail.

Meixell said that the planning office determined that the proposed project is “consistent with the goals and objectives of the Carbon County Comprehensive Plan and Greenway Plan and local land use practices and land development ordinances that impact this project.”

No formal action by the commission on the review was required.

The planning commission also recommended approval for four subdivision plans. They include:

• Paul Montemuro received plan approval for a proposed subdivision at 2530 Route 534 in Kidder Township. The plans call for subdividing a 0.6337-acre lot from a 3.6750-acre lot.

• Kevin G. Power and Ellen M. Frantino received plan approval for a proposed subdivision at 184 Petrarch Trail, Towamensing Trails, Penn Forest Township. Plans call for combining two lots to create a 0.946-acre lot.

• Split Rock Country Club received plan approval for a subdivision at 479-493 Moseywood Road, Kidder Township. Plans call for subdividing 1.769 acres, which houses the resort’s condominiums, from the 300-plus acres that includes the golf course.

• Rosann Leininger received conditional plan approval for a proposed subdivision at 301 Maple St., Weatherly. Plans call for subdividing 35.006 acres into three lots.
