LCCC offers scholarships for Schuylkill residents

Lehigh Carbon Community College is offering a limited number of scholarships for training of Schuylkill County residents for programs beginning in May and June.

The scholarships are available to adults age 18 or older who reside in the county and are either unemployed or would be able to benefit economically from the training.

An accelerated emergency management training course is scheduled for Monday through Thursday, June 11 to Aug. 2, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at LCCC’s Morgan Center in Tamaqua. Some Saturday classes are included. Cost is $1,200, which includes text. Scholarships are available to cover up to full tuition (book cost and fees additional).

Commercial driver’s license classes held at LCCC’s Schnecksville campus are available weekdays or weekends with classes starting monthly. Contact Jack Bruer at jbruer@lccc.edu for scholarship and additional information.

Two additional programs beginning in May and June offer scholarships to eligible Schuylkill county residents. Both offer in-demand training in the growing health care field and are held at the LCCC Tamaqua site.

The Healthcare Administrative Assistant program runs Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, May 30 through Sept. 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Training prepares individuals for office positions in a medical setting. Class includes computer skills, medical terminology and medical office practices. Cost is $895. Text is additional.

A Certified Nursing Aide program prepares individuals for employment in skilled care facilities. Start your career as a nursing assistant and continue your studies to LPN or RN while working in the field. Class runs Monday through Thursday, June 18 through Aug. 14, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost is $1,195; text is additional.
