Upcoming events to help the society

The St. Vincent de Paul Society will be out in the community on the following days, either taking part in various events, or working on fundraising efforts.

• May 12: Valor Clinic Stand Down Day at the American Fire Company, 26 E. Patterson St., Lansford. The event, held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. aims to provide area veterans with free food, clothes and hygiene items, as well as blood pressure screenings, information and resources available through St. Luke’s. A hot meal is also provided and housing referrals for homeless veterans will be available. Crafts will also be available to children to make something for their mothers for Mother’s Day. The event is free and open to everyone.

• May 17: Volunteers will have a booth at the third annual Panther Valley Health Carnival at the Panther Valley Intermediate School. The event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. The St. Vincent de Paul Society will have information available on ways the community can help, and children may bring a nonperishable food item in return for a chance to win prizes.

• May 19: Society members will be at Boyer’s Market in Lansford from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for a food collection. Volunteers will pass out grocery lists to shoppers in hopes to help fill the pantry shelves by shoppers purchasing items from the lists and dropping them off at the volunteer table at the entrance to the store.
