Yurchak heading to Dean College for baseball

Steph Yurchak, a senior at Weatherly Area High School, has signed to play Division 3 baseball for Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts.

Yurchak has been awarded the Oliver Dean Honors Scholarship and has been invited to participate in the Dean Honors Program, in addition to playing for the baseball team.

In addition to being a key contributor to the Weatherly baseball team during his high school career, Yurchak has also excelled in the Weatherly Little League, Babe Ruth (back-to-back championship teams in 2015 and 2016) and Senior Babe Ruth baseball teams.

During his four years at Weatherly, Yurchak has been a Principal’s Honor Student, a member of National Honor Society, and a co-captain and letterwinner on both the Wreckers’ basketball and baseball teams. He was also Weatherly’s nominee as Basketball Player of the Year in the Schuylkill League.

At Dean College, Yurchak will play for head coach Ernie May. May has coached 30 players who were drafted or signed by Major League Baseball. He was the youngest General Manager of a Minor League baseball team, managing the NY Mets affiliate in Massachusetts in 1991.

Yurchak has a career goal of working in the sports industry. Dean College offers a variety of sports majors, providing students with the opportunity to learn from and work with professionals associated with many Boston area sports organizations. As part of that program, Yurchak looks forward to an internship with the Boston Red Sox.

Steph is the son of Robert and Cindy Yurchak of Weatherly, where he also resides with his sister Megan and his brother Andrew.
