Local Sports Roundup: Results of May 3

The Tamaqua baseball team rallied for a win over North Schuylkill on Thursday, while the Lehighton baseball and softball teams picked up wins over Pottsville.

In lacrosse action, both the Pleasant Valley girls and boys were victorious.

BASEBALL

North Schuylkill-Tamaqua

Tamaqua capitalized on a middle-inning surge in an 11-9 Schuylkill League win over North Schuylkill.

Michael Bonetsky led the Blue Raiders (8-6; 6-4) with three singles, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Thad Zuber finished with three singles, two runs scored and an RBI.

Nate Boyle recorded two singles, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Brayden Knoblauch chipped in with two singles and a walk.

Pottsville-Lehighton

A three-run seventh inning helped Lehighton post a 5-4 come-from-behind Schuylkill League victory over Pottsville.

Noah Sensinger paced the Indians with a single, two runs scored, two walks and an RBI, while Logan Pagotto followed with a single, a run scored and an RBI.

The Indians (7-9; 2-8) also received a double and a run scored from Sean Heery.

Southern Lehigh-Palmerton

Southern Lehigh jumped out to an early lead en route to a 7-1 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Devyn Rehrig led the Blue Bombers (10-6; 9-6) with a single and a run scored, while Ben Serfass chipped in with a single and an RBI.

Blue Mountain-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe trailed Blue Mountain by a 3-2 score when rain forced the game to be postponed.

The contest, which was stopped in the top of the fourth inning, will be completed on May 8.

SOFTBALL

Southern Lehigh-Palmerton

Southern Lehigh surged ahead in the middle innings to post a 6-2 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

The Bombers’ Kailah Altemose was a home run short of the cycle, finishing 3-for-4 with a single, double, triple and an RBI.

Paige Shupp finished with two singles and a run scored.

Palmerton slips to 10-6 overall and 9-6 in the league.

Pottsville-Lehighton

Heidi Green was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle as part of a performance that highlighted Lehighton’s 13-0 Schuylkill League win over Pottsville.

Green was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two singles, a double, triple, one run scored and six RBIs, while Becky Serfass ended up with two singles, a double, four runs scored and two RBIs for the Indians (6-10; 5-7).

Rachel Serfass chipped in with two singles, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain got the best of Jim Thorpe for a 16-1 Schuylkill League win.

The Eagles were led by Peightyn Schwartz, who earned the pitching win and also collected three hits and four RBIs at the plate.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Pleasant Valley-Nazareth

Pleasant Valley edged Nazareth for a 13-12 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.

Savannah Bauman led the Bears (8-7) with eight goals, while Juliana Lopez scored four times and Danni Reino made six saves.

BOYS LACROSSE

Bethlehem Cath.-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley doubled up on Bethlehem Catholic for a 14-7 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.

The Bears (4-13) were led by the duo of McCut and Miller, who both finished with hat tricks.
