A Monroe County man has been charged with theft for making fraudulent purchases on an Effort church account.

State police at Fern Ridge said that sometime between October and April, Henry McCormick, 54, of Effort, made fraudulent purchases on the Effort United Methodist Church account that totaled about $30,000.

McCormick, who was the director of supplemental food resource center at the church, has been charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, theft by deception and receiving stolen property.
