April 23, 1979 — Duane Beers, Barry Eckhart and Suzy Jones all win three individual events to help Slatington sweep Lehighton in a Centennial League meet. Beers captures both hurdling races and the 440 as the boys post an 88-62 victory. Eckhart breaks the tape in the 800, 1600 and 3200 to register 15 points. Jones not only claims three firsts in the Bulldogs’ 71-61 upset, but sets three new field records at Lehighton in the process. She wins all three throwing events (shot, discus, javelin). Pam Peters also contributes to the victory, taking both the 110 hurdles and the triple jump.
