Monroe County expects to save through banking change

Monroe County Treasurer Theresa Johnson’s decision to change from PNC Bank to First Keystone Community Bank and East Stroudsburg Saving Association for the county’s many accounts is estimated to net the county more than six figures in the first year.

Johnson told the commissioners on Wednesday that they will be “pleasantly surprised” with the results from the change.

“The money will come from increase in interest as well as savings on fees,” Chairman John Moyer said.

The decision to change banking institutions was made last month. The treasurer’s office has been busy opening the new accounts.

The commissioners also approved a number of items including a maintenance agreement with Otis for annual elevator service at the Loder Building at $521 per month, an extension to the lease for the Pocono Township Magistrate’s office through Oct. 14 at a rate of $2,700 per month as well as approving cleaning services for several of the district justice’s offices.
