Firefighters are battling a stubborn brush fire in West Penn Township.

The blaze was first reported just after 1 p.m. along Lumber Lane. Due to the remote area of the scene emergency personnel had difficult time locating the site, although the smoke was dense in the area.

The fire was located at 237 Lumber Lane spreading fast through the brush. Firefighters from West Penn and New Ringgold as well as the Bureau of Forestry responded to the blaze.

The relative humidity values will continue to drop into upper 20s to low 30s this afternoon, with occasional southwest wind gusts of 20 to 25 mph. This will help dry the fine fuels some throughout the day. As a result, there will be an enhanced threat for fire spread today.
