Man killed in three-car crash in Lehigh Township

A Lehigh County man is dead after a three-car crash Tuesday afternoon in Lehigh Township.

At around 5:29 p.m., Lehigh Township Police responded to the crash with entrapment that occurred in the area of 248 Riverview Drive (Route 145) near Three Mile Lane.

The vehicles involved were a blue PT Cruiser, a silver Mazda 6 and a Chevrolet 2500 dump truck pulling a trailer loaded with equipment.

The driver of the PT Cruiser, Richard Pasko, 27, of Coplay, was pronounced dead at the scene by Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek.

His passenger, Melissa Powell, also of Coplay, suffered injuries and was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

The driver of the Chevrolet 2500 dump truck was identified as Steven Csanadi, 28, of Danielsville. Csanadi was uninjured in the crash.

The third vehicle, the silver Mazda, was operated by Jacob Rockovits, 25, of Catasauqua, who was also uninjured.

A preliminary investigation by police indicate the PT Cruiser was traveling southbound on Riverview Drive and struck the guide rail on the right side of the roadway, then swerved into oncoming traffic.

The PT Cruiser collided head-on with the dump truck, causing the trailer to disconnect, dumping landscape equipment and tools onto the roadway.

The dump truck collided with the Mazda that was also traveling southbound on Riverview Drive, behind the PT Cruiser.

The cause of the PT Cruiser striking the guardrail is under investigation.

Route 145 was closed for five hours for the investigation.

Also assisting at the scene were the Northampton County Coroner’s Office, Lehigh Township Fire Department, Lehigh Township Fire Police, and Northampton Regional EMS.

Five towing companies were summoned to the scene to remove the vehicles and debris from the roadway.
