Location of donated train discussed

West Penn Township officials continue to ponder where to locate a locomotive that is being donated to them.

Supervisors said last week that the locomotive is a small train that has a 35-ton engine and needs some basic restoration to preserve it.

However, the board hasn’t yet decided where it wants to put the locomotive.

Board Chairman Tony Prudenti said he would like to have the train station and the locomotive up by the police station.

Supervisor Timothy Houser said he would prefer to have the locomotive located at the train station’s current spot next to the St. Luke’s Urgent Care facility on routes 895 and 309.

The township is interested in the locomotive due to its historical value.

Prudenti suggested the township could look to turn the area into a visitors center.
