State police at Frackville are investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred at 9:21 a.m. Saturday along Interstate 81 in Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County.

Troopers said Richard O’Brien, 79, of Cortland, New York, was southbound in the left lane attempting to pass a tractor with trailer rig when the rig’s driver began to move from the right lane into the left passing lane.

As the rig moved into the lane the trailer portion struck and broke the right side-view mirror of O’Brien’s 2016 Ford Escape.

After impact the truck continued southbound without stopping. O’Brien was not injured.

The hit-and-run vehicle was described as being a brown UPS tractor/trailer combination. The investigation is continuing.
