A look back: March 14, 1986

Mayor Thomas Wildoner of Jim Thorpe was called upon to break a tie vote during Thursday’s monthly meeting of the borough council, casting a “yes” vote in favor of a move to have two part-time police officers surrender their badges. They are Nolan Wernett Jr. and Joseph Weaver.

It was noted Police Chief Thomas Mase and the mayor recommended they turn in their badges considering the infrequency with which they accepted assignments.

Council members Pat McGinley, David Newton and Jay Miller favored the suggestion and voted accordingly while David Rimsky, James Bennick and Carol Witt voted “no,” saying they should be retained and available for call in the event of an emergency.
