Motorcyclist injured while fleeing West Penn police

A motorcyclist was critically injured Saturday afternoon while attempting to elude the West Penn Township police. The incident began when police attempted to make a stop on Route 309 for a traffic violation. The biker took off, turning west on Zions Stone Church Road at a high rate of speed. He traveled to the intersection with Archery Club Road, where he turned left, traveling south. As he crested a hill he sideswiped an oncoming pickup, causing severe damage to his leg. He continued on through the intersection with Route 895 to Blue Mountain Drive to his residence. West Penn police talked to area residents and were able to locate the man’s home. He was treated at the scene by members of the Penn Mahoning ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being flown by PennStar helicopter to a Lehigh Valley trauma center.
