Times News cookbooks

The Times News Tamaqua office has a number of “vintage” Times News cookbooks available.

Specific editions include those from the years 2000, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016. The books are available for 50 cents each on a first-come, first-served basis.

Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Rush Ryan seniors

The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met Feb. 27 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 43 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “God Knows.”

Two new members, Dolly Kamant and Mary Ann Kupetz, received warm welcomes. Dues for 2018 are now being accepted.

A bus trip to Fort Indiantown Gap is being planned for May 25 with transportation through the Schuylkill Transportation Service.

The anniversary dinner will be held May 22 with the meal provided by M and I Deli of Tamaqua.

The group is open to anyone 55 or older.

St. Peter’s Union

The Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Girl Scout Sunday at St. Peter’s Union Church in Mantzville. The service will include a joyous noise offering. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the junior choir will rehearse at 11 a.m., Confirmation class meets at 11:15 a.m., Cub and Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.

Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., Sunday school teachers and officers meet at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m., midweek Lenten service at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, cherub choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m., senior choir meets at 7:30 p.m.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at this Sunday’s 9:15 a.m. worship service in St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Also on Sunday, bells will meet at 8 a.m.; Confirmation, First Holy Communion and Sunday school classes meet at 10:30 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, church council meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, midweek Lenten service, 7 p.m., at St. John’s; Thursday, angel choir rehearses at 6 p.m., shepherd choir meets at 6:30 p.m. and the chancel choir practices at 7:30 p.m.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.

On March 15, there will be: Bible study session at 12:30 p.m.; planning session at 7 p.m. for Vacation Bible School.
