Man jailed for assault on state trooper

A Schuylkill County man was jailed on Friday on charges he assaulted a state trooper.

Brian Brobst, 35, of Auburn, has been charged with aggravated and simple assault, resisting arrest and harassment for an incident on Rocky Road, in West Brunswick Township, at 1:06 p.m.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said a trooper responded to that address for a reported physical altercation involving Brobst and family members. While the trooper was attempting to take Brobst into custody for the assault, he proceeded to tighten up and refused to be handcuffed. He then turned around and cocked his arm back in an attempt to strike the trooper. Brobst then grabbed the trooper’s left shoulder.

The trooper attempted to grab Brobst’s arm and he swung it around and struck the trooper with his forearm. After striking the trooper, Brobst got up and lunged at him. At this point, other troopers arrived on scene and were able to handcuff Brobst and take him into custody.

He was arraigned before District Judge David Plachko, of Port Carbon. He was committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $50,000 straight cash bail.
