Heavy winds blow trees onto trucks

High winds blew a tree down onto the hood of a truck that was traveling on Route 443 (Clamtown) Road in East Brunswick Township on Friday.

The incident happened at 2:50 p.m. where Route 443 intersects with Schuylkill Road.

State police at Frackville said James B. Weigand, 49, of Downingtown, was traveling westbound in a 2017 Ford F-350 pickup when his truck was hit by a large tree falling to the ground due to the high winds.

Police said the tree landed on the hood of the vehicle while it was in motion.

Weigand and a passenger, Brian J. Weigand, 19, also of Downingtown, were not injured.

The truck sustained disabling damages and needed to be towed from the scene.

Another pickup was damaged by a fallen tree in West Penn Township late Friday night. The tree fell due to high winds along Spring Road just south of Route 443.

The owner of the home reports the truck belongs to his son-in-law who is with his wife in Florida preparing to leave on a cruise.
