A look back: March 5, 1946

Hotels and tap rooms report a decreasing supply of liquor and beer. This is due to President Harry Truman’s order cutting down the supply of wheat 30 percent in order to feed the starving people of Europe.

The curtailment has resulted in outside breweries ceasing shipments to local distributors, and some breweries intend to cease shipments out of their area until the supply is better.

Beer for weddings, dinners and parties will not be available during March, April and May because the breweries desire to deliver as much as possible to licensees. Private clubs will also feel the shortage.
