Concerns raised over intersection in Slatington

During public comment, longtime resident Kris Burek asked the board to look into the “the dangerous intersection” of Long Alley and Fairmont Alley.

“People are coming off Main to Fairmont and then turning up to Long Alley. There have been several near misses,” she said.

Burek said a building is a vision blocker for drivers taking the turn on Fairmont.

“A man at Main and Fairmont sells lawn mowers. People pull over and park to look at them and then other people can’t make it down Long Alley,” she said.

Burek cited the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation handbook stating that Fairmont qualifies as a one-way street by its standards.

“It cannot accommodate two cars,” she said.

“Please mark it as a one-way from Long Alley down to Main because it’s a downward slope. It would also be nice if Zellner was opened for two-way traffic,” she said.

Stevens said the issue would be discussed during upcoming committee meetings.
