Man charged in assault of officers, narcotics agent

A Carbon County man is facing assault charges following an incident on Tuesday in Summit Hill in which one police officer was injured.

Summit Hill police, along with narcotic agents of the Attorney General’s office and sheriff’s deputies, went to 102 E. White Bear Drive with arrest warrants for people known to frequent the residence.

Police said the residence has turned into a “flop house” for drug addicts and police have made several drug arrests during the past few weeks at the home.

Upon entering the home police found numerous people inside. One of them, identified as Brett Rodriguez, 40, whose last known address was 263 S. First St., Lehighton, became highly combative and began actively trying to assault officers and a narcotic agent. Rodriguez also resisted arrest and an officer was injured during the struggle. After being taken into custody Rodriguez continued to try to fight with police and yelled obscenities and smashed his head and face off objects numerous times.

Rodriguez has been charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, two counts each of simple assault and harassment and one count of persistent disorderly conduct. Rodriguez is currently an inmate in the county prison

Police said other people in the residence were taken into custody on outstanding warrants.
