Woman charged in 3-vehicle crash in Tamaqua

Three vehicles were damaged, a deer was killed and a Coaldale woman was cited after a crash in Tamaqua on Feb. 3.

It happened shortly after 6 p.m., when a deer tried to cross Route 209, east of the former Jamesway Shopping Plaza. The deer was struck by a car and had to be put down due to its broken hindquarters.

The car that struck the deer kept going, but the driver of a second car slammed on the brakes and was hit from behind by a third vehicle.

That second vehicle left the scene, but was stopped on East Ridge Street in Coaldale by Coaldale Police. The driver was identified as Heather Anderson, 23, of Kunkletown. She told the officer she left the scene because her insurance coverage had lapsed.

She was cited for driving without insurance and for leaving the scene of an crash. Her car suffered minor rear end damage, but the third vehicle had to be towed from the scene due to severe front end damage.
