A 46-year-old woman is dead and two other people are in the hospital after a standoff Sunday in Luzerne County.

Police responded to 15 Spring Street in Foster Township after a 51-year-old man called a friend to say “something bad happened to his girlfriend” and that friend contacted authorities.

Upon arrival, troopers heard a woman inside the residence calling for help and immediately set up a perimeter around the home.

The state police Special Emergency Response Team responded to the scene and began negotiating with the male, who was inside the residence and believed to be armed.

When SERT members entered the home, they found the man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the deceased woman and the woman’s mother, 72, who had a head injury.

The suspect and mother of the victim were flown to Geisinger Wyoming Valley for treatment.
