Newhall, Clymer, Peters golden at Coal Cracker Tournament 

Three Times News area wrestlers made it to the finals Saturday at Panther Valley’s Coal Cracker Tournament. And all three left with gold around their necks. 

Northwestern’s Matt Peters and Caleb Clymer, along with Jim Thorpe’s John Newhall, won individual titles at the 9th Annual event. 

Peters edged Notre Dame Green Pond’s Ryan McGuire 1-0 in the 132-pound final, while Clymer topped Scranton’s Jacob Burgette 6-2 for the 160-pound title. Newhall won a 2-0 decision against NDGP’s Joshua Bauman in the 113-pound final. 

Jackson Bernhard (152) was third, Colin Rex (138) fourth, Jake Dellicker (106) and Quinn Moyer (220) fifth, Harrison Bernhard (126) seventh and Ryan Havercamp (170) eighth for the Tigers. 

Panther Valley’s Tanner Kennedy (160), Hunter Kennedy (170) and Derrick Beckham (182) all placed third. 

Bronson Strouse (220) was third, while Pierce Demetriades (126) took sixth and Aaron Coccio (120) eighth for Tamaqua. 

Seth Fronheiser (132) placed fourth, Preston Bauer (120) sixth and Dominic Bandle (220) eighth for Northern Lehigh. 

Palmerton’s Lucas Christman (145) took fifth, while Matt Lalik (138) placed eighth. 

Ethan Mordaunt (195) was seventh, and Will Schwartz (106) eighth for Jim Thorpe. 

Midd-West won the team title with 177 points. Northwestern was second in the 32-team tournament with 168.5 points.
