State police at Fern Ridge investigate crashes

State police at Fern Ridge reported on two crashes investigated by troopers.

A two-vehicle crash was reported at 1:55 p.m. on Jan. 7 along Route 209 and an entrance to a Rite Aid Pharmacy store in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Nakai L. Hagerty, 39, of Summit Hill, was exiting the Rite Aid lot and attempting a left turn onto Route 209. Karen Hnatowicz, 49, of Palmerton, was southbound on Route 209. Troopers said Hagerty pulled into the path of Hnatowicz, who did not have enough time to react. The front driver side of Hagerty’s vehicle struck the front of Hnatowicz’s vehicle.

Hnatowicz was injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pocono campus, East Stroudsburg, by West End ambulance. Hagerty and passenger Meghan R. King, 31, of East Stroudsburg, and a 17-year-old girl from Palmerton with Hnatowicz, were not injured.

Troopers cited Hagerty for not having a license.

Troopers also reported investigating a crash at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Charles M. Denis, 36, of Berwick, Columbia County, was westbound in the right lane when he lost control on the snow-covered road.

His 2015 Subaru Forester traveled onto the right shoulder and struck a traffic sign and guide rail. Denis was not injured but the vehicle had to be towed.
