Irish music in Tamaqua

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, the Tamaqua Community Art Center will present an evening of traditional Celtic music and Irish Step Dancing with the Celtic Martins on March 17.

The Martins hail from southeastern Pennsylvania and began performing publicly in 2004. Formerly known as the Martin Family Band, the troupe is composed of parents Nelson and Elaine Martin, their six children, and family friend Elijah Roeder.

Nelson and Elaine are the guitarists, while Roeder serves as the band’s drummer.

The children all contribute in different ways. Emily plays the fiddle and bagpipes. Melissa plays the fiddle, guitar, accordion and Irish whistles. Brian plays guitar and percussion. Christy can be found playing the fiddle, bagpipes and cello, while Zach and Alex round out the ensemble on fiddles.

Emily, Melissa and Christy provide the Irish step dancing.

The event is being sponsored by Rosie and Gerald Stianche.

The show will begin at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

The art center is located at 125 Pine St., Tamaqua. For more information, call 570-668-1192.
