Woman racks up $7K in credit charges

Tamaqua Police have cited Lisa Schaeffer, 56, of Saint Clair, in connection with the unauthorized use of a credit card.

The victim contacted police on Jan. 2 to report that Schaeffer, who had been living with him on Hunter Street in the early part of 2017, had used his CitiWorld account to acquire a credit card in her name.

He never authorized the card and learned about it when he was notified the payment was overdue. The charges were $7,142.13 plus fees.

Schaeffer said she had permission to open an account, which she used to purchase items for herself and her sister.

The victim denied giving her permission and contacted the card holder to report the unauthorized transactions.

Schaeffer was charged with theft by false impression and receiving stolen property.
