PPL seeks steep decrease in CO2 emissions by 2050

PPL Corp. anticipates that carbon dioxide emissions from its generation of electricity will decline substantially by 2050.

Its utilities in Kentucky will be retiring its aging coal units and replacing them with natural gas and renewable generation.

The company’s recent climate assessment report concluded that carbon dioxide reductions of 45 percent to 90 percent are likely at PPL’s Kentucky power plants by 2050, even without carbon dioxide regulation.

The range of the percentage of reduction is due to how much natural gas is used versus renewable generation.
