Tamaqua YMCA to hold grand reopening

It offers a state-of-the-art fitness center, interactive youth center, and provides various other amenities.

With such user-friendly resources, it’s no wonder why the Tamaqua YMCA is excited about its revitalization.

The recreational facility will hold its grand reopening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the facility located at 1201 East Broad St.

Jessica Marcolla, senior program director, said the event will celebrate the upgrades made to the facility.

“We’re changing the facility for the better, and to help the community out,” Marcolla said.

Marcolla said the grand reopening will feature door prizes, tours, games, light refreshments, chair massages and a wellness area.

Also, Silver Sneakers instructor Barb Dereskavich will be on hand, as will John Ritzko, personal trainer, she said.

Marcolla said the facility was in need of a face-lift of sorts.

“It had been let go for many years,” she said. “It needed to be updated and changed.”

The facility also features group exercise rooms, a gymnasium, child watch area, Jack & Jill Preschool, a youth adventure center, low-impact machines for those looking for a lighter workout, and meeting/conference rooms.

“It’s family-oriented,” she said. “By joining the classes, you can make new friends, and the staff is really helpful.”

Marcolla said the staff at the Tamaqua YMCA consists of 20 employees.

A nonprofit group, they offer financial aid assistance, she said. Marcolla said day passes cost $5 for youth, and $10 for adults.

The Tamaqua YMCA is open from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
