Jim Thorpe working on water main break

Two water main breaks in the “Heights” section of the borough have kept Jim Thorpe crews busy over the last two days.

The first came Sunday night on Cherry Avenue.

“That one has been fixed,” Borough Manager Maureen Sterner said Monday afternoon. “We also had one around noon in the area of Center Avenue and Cedar Avenue.”

The borough did not have an estimate as to the number of customers affected as crews were on site trying to repair the break “as soon as possible.”

Jim Thorpe residents in the “Heights” section of the borough are advised to boil their water before consuming it.

According to borough officials, the breaks may have led to low or no water pressure for nearby residents.

Boil water notices were provided to the affected residents and a copy of it was posted on the Jim Thorpe Borough website.

“We are sampling the water for the presence of coliform bacteria over the next two days and you will be notified when you no longer need to boil water,” according to the notice.
