So cold

Ice forms on the Lehigh River near the newly placed pedestrian bridge in Jim Thorpe Friday morning. The pedestrian bridge was installed earlier this month to connect the Delaware & Lehigh navigation trail. The 250-foot footbridge connects downtown Jim Thorpe to the Weissport section of the D&L Trail.

At a cost of $4 million, the bridge is the D&L’s largest project to date and will close one of Pennsylvania’s top 10 trail gaps. Six bridge segments were assembled into two halves, with each segment weighing about 60 tons. The segments were held together with over 400 bolts and lifted into place. Ice will continue to form on the river as the temperatures are expected to remain below freezing well into next week. Snow is in the forecast for today and tonight. BOB FORD/TIMES NEWS
