Tamaqua mayor honored at Advent Breakfast

The Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship honored borough mayor Chris Morrison during Saturday’s Community Advent Breakfast

Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship representative James Stoves (Bethany ECC) read a proclamation to Tamaqua Mayor Chris Morrison during Saturday’s Community Advent Breakfast announcing that this year’s event was being held in Morrison’s honor.

For each of the last five years, Morrison has prepared his own proclamation naming the third Sunday of September is Back to Church Sunday in Tamaqua. Morrison has also been a guest speaker at six of the seven Advent Breakfasts. He leaves office at the end of this month.

With Stoves and Morrison is TAFFN representative Gary Price (Calvary Episcopal) who presented Morrison with a gift from TAFFN. Tamaqua’s Advent Breakfast is sponsored by TAFFN, the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership and the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce.

This year’s keynote speaker was Tamaqua Citizen of the Year and chair of the annual TAFFN Hunger Walk Paul Dodson who explained why he continues to serve God by helping others.

Crossroad Duo (Sterling Koch and Jack Kulp) provided the musical entertainment for this year’s event. The breakfast was prepared by Zion Lutheran’s Culinary Crew.

Tamaqua Advent Breakfast is based on Bethlehem’s  Advent Breakfast which celebrated its 52nd anniversary this year. TAFFN, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization of lay leaders from Tamaqua area congregations, operates under the umbrella of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership.
