Panther Valley board member resigns post

The Panther Valley School Board reorganized Thursday night and announced that a recently elected member would not be joining them.

William Mansberry won a four-year seat in November’s General Election. He won the seat vacated by board member Dan Heaney.

However, Mansberry wrote a letter to the district following the election, informing them he cannot take his seat. President Wayne Gryzik said it was for health reasons.

The board took the step of declaring Mansberry’s seat vacant on Thursday. They are now accepting letters of intent to fill the seat. Letters can be submitted to the district office, 1 Panther Way, Lansford by Jan 2 at 2 p.m.

“Mr. Mansberry submitted a letter saying he will not be able to take his seat, so I would suggest we accept the letter and declare the seat vacant,” board solicitor Robert Yurchak said.

During the reorganization, the board agreed to name Gryzik as president once again, and Gary Porembo as vice president. Renee DeMelfi is the board secretary.

Four incumbent board members were sworn in for new terms Thursday night. Keith Krapf, Irene A. Genther and Christopher Kerestes were each elected to four-year terms in November, while Justin Foster was elected to a two-year term.
