Lehighton Band to present Christmas Concert

The Lehighton Band will present its annual Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Pfc. Clyde Houser Annex building on Third Street in Lehighton.

The theme for the concert is a “Mashed-Up” Christmas.

The band will open with a number called “Symphonic Prelude” on Adeste Fidelis, and follow that up with its first combination piece of music called “Pacem Noel,” which combines the “Dona Nobis Pacem” with “The First Noel.”

The next selection is James Swearingen’s “Ring in the Joy,” which combines “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” with Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.”

“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” is a song that dates back to 1944, but continues to have new incarnations. From Dinah Shore and Buddy Clark, to Idina Menzel and Michael Bublé, it continues to be a favorite.

The Lehighton Band’s version will feature soloists Joe Plechavy on trombone and Mike Reph on trumpet.

After performing their hit “Appalachian Snowfall,” the band will follow with the namesake piece of its concert, “Holiday Mashup.”

This piece of music comes from the television show “Glee,” and features a combination of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “Jingle Bell Rock.”

Additional selections will include songs made famous by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Manheim Steamroller, among others.

The final song of the concert will be a Christmas singalong. Plechavy will lead the audience in the singing of several Christmas carols.

Refreshments will be served after the concert.

Tables will be available on the ground level on a first-come, first-served basis and balcony seating will also be available.

Doors will open at 6:15 for the event. Tickets can be obtained for the concert from any member of the Lehighton Band or at Carbon County Music and More, 115 S. Second St., Lehighton.

The announcer for the concert is Barry Gangwer.

The band is under the direction of Bradly R. Cressley.
