Police release details on rig, pickup crash in Penn Forest

Two people were injured, one seriously, in a crash on Route 903 in Penn Forest Township Tuesday, according to state police at Fern Ridge.

The crash, involving a pickup and a tanker truck, occurred at 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of Old Stage Road and Route 903.

At the time of the crash, the pickup was traveling northbound on 903 and the tanker truck was traveling southbound.

According to state police, the pickup crossed into the southbound lane, where the collision occurred.

The pickup came to a rest at the intersection while the tanker truck ended up on the southbound shoulder of 903.

It took nearly two hours for crews to remove the pickup driver from the wreck.

Police identified the man as 26-year-old Elgin Donte Rice of Newark, Delaware. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest.

The driver of the tanker, Richard Digennaro, 70, of Effort, was taken to Geisinger Medical Center with apparent minor injuries.

State police were assisted at the scene by volunteers from the Albrightsville and Lake Harmony Fire companies.

No further details were available.
