One person was seriously injured Monday evening in a crash along Route 309 in West Penn township.

The crash occurred just before 6 p.m. at the intersection of Route 309 and Pine Hill Road.

Reports from the scene the car may have pulled out of Pine Hill Road into the path of a northbound tractor trailer. The impact sent the car spinning up Route 309 onto a private lot.

Members of the West Penn Fire Company extricated the victim  from the wreckage.

The victim was treated at the scene by members of the Penn Mahoning ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being transported to an area trauma center. West Penn township police are investigating the incident. West Penn Fire police maintained traffic control at the scene.

Route 309 is closed.
