State police report on cases involving drugs, alcohol, DUI and possession

Cases involving drugs and alcohol — including driving under the influence — continue to dominate the police docket in Carbon and Monroe counties, where state police at the Lehighton barracks have reported numerous incidents that they were involved in throughout November.

• A 21-year-old Tobyhanna man will be charged with possession of a controlled substance as a result of a stop initiated for a traffic violation at 6:20 p.m. Sunday on Route 209 northbound near Harrity Road in Polk Township. The man, a passenger, was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

• A 27-year-old Summit Hill man is facing drug possession charges after a stop for a traffic violation at 8:19 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Route 209 and Main Road in Franklin Township. He was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

• Police arrested a 24-year-old Philadelphia man for drug possession after a traffic stop at 1:35 p.m. Saturday in the area of Route 209 and Rock Road in Franklin Township. The man was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

• Police charged a 20-year-old Bloomsburg man with drug possession after a traffic stop at 1:16 p.m. Wednesday in area of routes 209 and 248 in Franklin Township. Police said he was a passenger in the vehicle and was in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

• Following a one-vehicle crash at 8:50 a.m. Nov. 24 at the intersection of Burger Hollow and Serfass roads in Polk Township, police took a 28-year-old Northampton man into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. Charges are pending the results of a blood test.

• A 19-year-old Kunkletown man was arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance after he was stopped at 9:20 p.m. Nov. 18 at the intersection of Route 209 and Hideaway Hills Road in Polk Township for vehicle violations. Police said he displayed signs of impairment and was transported to the Monroe County DUI Center for processing and later released.

• A 41-year-old Pocono Summit man fled the scene of a one-vehicle crash at 7:54 p.m. Friday on Meixsell Valley Road, Kunkletown, but was apprehended a short time later and found to have been driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said he sustained minor injuries in the crash. When police located him, they said multiple indicators of DUI were observed. The driver also had active warrants for his arrest issued against him.

• A 19-year-old Bowmanstown man is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after he was stopped for a traffic violation at 10:29 p.m. Nov. 15 in the area of routes 209 and 443 in Lehighton. He was taken for a blood test. Charges will be filed in the magisterial district court office pending laboratory results.
