Several acres burn in Summit Hill brush fire

Several acres of brush burned in Summit Hill between Route 902 and West White Bear Drive, Monday afternoon.

Moderate winds, dry conditions from the lack of rain for several days and above normal temperatures have made the woodlands dry.

Officials said the cause of the fire wasn’t determined.

Responding were the Summit Hill, Lansford and Nesquehoning fire departments, as well as the Lehighton Ambulance.

Members of the Pa. Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ forest fire fighting division also helped to fight the blaze on the steep hillside.

Route 902 was down to one lane for nearly an hour because of the fire department activity.

Traffic control was handled by fire police from Summit Hill.

The Summit Hill Police Department was also on scene.

It was one of at least two brush fires on Monday. Earlier in the day, fire departments in Rush Township and Ryan Township battled a blaze in Rush Township.
