Woman shot at Schuylkill club dies

The woman shot in the head by her husband at a private club in Schuylkill County has died.

State police at Frackville said Diane Brobst, 51, of Sugarloaf, Luzerne County, died at 6:25 p.m. on Wednesday in the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was flown following the incident. She was shot about 7:54 p.m on Tuesday in the Shenandoah Fish and Game Club, located at 395 Ferndale Rd., Union Township, by her husband, Steven Brobst, 62, of Sugarloaf.

Troopers said Steven Brobst entered the club and shot his wife in the head while she was seated at the bar. He then attempted to shoot himself, but the weapon jammed. Other patrons in the bar then wrestled the gun from him and held him until troopers arrived.

Brobst was originally charged with attempted criminal homicide and related counts. However, troopers have now withdrawn those charges and filed new criminal counts including criminal homicide, murder of the first and third degree, aggravated and simple assault, firearms not to be carried without a license, possessing instruments of crime and recklessly endangering another person.

Brobst was arraigned on the new charges on Thursday by on-call District Judge James Ferrier, of Orwigsburg. No bail was set as a district judge can not set bail on a homicide charge. Brobst was returned to the county prison in Pottsville where he has been held since Tuesday when he was arrested and originally charged.
