Carbon former construction firm employee downloaded child porn at worker

FORTY FORT (AP) A former project manager for a local construction firm was arrested Tuesday on allegations he download child pornography on his work computer when he worked for the company, records show.

Joseph P. Galvin was arraigned Tuesday on felony charges for allegedly downloading nearly 100 child porn images and a graphic 44-minute video on his computer issued by Forty Fort-based Sordoni Construction.

The 50-year-old engineer and construction manager from Albrightsville, was jailed in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility. Magisterial District Judge David Barilla set bail at $250,000 cash.

Company officials on Tuesday said Galvin hasn’t worked for Sordoni for over a year.

“In October of 2016, Sordoni officials were made aware of the investigation and fully cooperated with authorities. Immediately thereafter, Galvin was no longer employed by Sordoni Construction Services, Inc.,” Maria K. Scappaticci, director of culture and human relations for Sordoni, said in an email.

It was not immediately clear why it took more than a year for charges to be filed in the case.

Arrest papers filed by the state Attorney General’s Office said agents started investigating Galvin last year after getting a referral from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security about a user downloading child porn on a file-sharing website.

The Internet Protocol address being used was traced to Sordoni Construction and further investigation pinpointed the usage to Galvin’s home at 168 Stone Ridge Road, arrest papers say.

Agents later visited Galvin and he allowed them to search his personal computer, police said. Nothing improper was found.

During the meeting, arrest papers say Galvin admitted to using his work laptop computer to view and download child pornography. He said he didn’t have the computer with him and the company had it in its possession, arrest papers say.

Investigators soon obtained the computer from the company and a forensic examination was conducted. Authorities determined the computer contained 98 sexual images of young females, most of them under age 13, and a lengthy video of two female minors engaged in sex acts, police said.

A professional profile for Galvin online indicates he has college degrees in architectural and structural engineering, and also construction management. It says he had worked at Sordoni Construction since April 2010.
