Police looking for armed suspect (updated)

Police say a wanted man who may be armed and dangerous is traveling with his girlfriend in the Tamaqua/Panther Valley area.

Police departments were asked Friday evening to be on the look out for Rafael Valdez-Torres, 26, of Hazleton.

He is wanted for an attempted murder that allegedly took place Oct. 10 in the borough, according to an alert put out by dispatchers Friday evening.

Valdez-Torres is described as a 5-foot-8 tall male, about 150 lbs., with brown eyes and black hair.

He may be driving an unknown color four-door Mercury car, or may be a passenger in a rusty-colored Nissan Altima.

The Altima is believed to be operated by his girlfriend, Mariah Lee Lewis, 24.

Lewis may also be armed. She is not wanted on a warrant at this time, however police would like to speak with her as well.

Valdez-Torres may be traveling between Coaldale, Lansford and Summit Hill, and also has ties to the Hazleton area.

Valdez-Torres is believed to be armed, possibly with a handgun.
