Homeless woman wanted in Tamaqua burglary

A Tamaqua woman faces charges of breaking and entering after gaining entry to a home on Nov. 2.

Tamaqua police received a call at 12:20 a.m. from a resident in the 500 block of North Pine Street. The caller said there was a woman in the home with entry possibly made through the basement.

The resident had been in an upstairs bedroom, watching television, and heard noises downstairs. Going down the steps, the victim found a woman crouching in a corner of the dining room. The suspect was wearing a gray hoodie and fled through the rear door when confronted.

Officers searched the area but the suspect was gone.

During the investigation officers determined the suspect removed a piece of lattice from the front porch area, crawled under the porch until she reached a window covered with cardboard and duct tape, pushed the cardboard inside and then climbed through the window. At some point she opened the basement door, possibly for an accomplice as the victim heard the woman exchanging words with someone as she fled.

The victim was able to identify the burglar as Nicole Arabaci, 35, who has no permanent address.

Anyone who knows of Arabaci’s whereabouts is asked to contact police at 570-668-6100.
