Two caught in Schuylkill burglary

Two Schuylkill County residents were caught in the act of burglarizing a county residence and are now jailed.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident occurred on Monday at a residence along Chestnut Street in North Manheim Township.

Troopers said Kenneth Smith, 28, of Mahanoy City, and Bryan Starr, 46, of Pottsville, gained entry to the residence through a busted-out portion of a basement wall. Once inside Starr gathered copper pipe while Smith searched for items of value. The entry was discovered by the owner of the property who called state police.

Troopers arrived on scene and took Smith and Starr into custody.

Both were arraigned on burglary and related counts before on-call District Judge Christina Hale, of Frackville, and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after both failed to post $25,000 straight cash bail. Troopers said a 2014 Chevrolet was seized and towed from the scene.
