Drugs 101, what parents need to know

Raiders STEP Up and Safer Streets for Tamaqua’s Little Feet are teaming up to present an evening seminar on “Drugs 101, What Every Parent Needs to Know.”

The event is free and will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Tamaqua Area Athletic Center, 502 Penn St., Tamaqua. The athletic center is located between the Tamaqua Area Senior High and Middle schools.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro will be guest speaker.

Other speakers are former Denver Broncos Vance Johnson, a wide receiver in the NFL who is currently in long-term recovery, and Diane Rowland, coordinator of Schuylkill County’s Drug and Alcohol Prevention program.

Participants will learn the signs and symptoms of substance abuse, how to identify illegal drugs and their packaging, and hear real life stories of addiction and recovery.

Several prizes will be awarded, including a Luvabella Responsive Baby Doll, a Lego Boost Creative toy box, a Furreal Roaring Tyler the Tiger and a $50 gift card from the Tamaqua Station Restaurant. Prize winners must be in attendance for the entire event.
