Election Day is problem-free

Carbon County director of elections Lisa Dart said that Tuesday’s elections have largely been problem-free this year.

Outside of a slight delay to open up the polls at Mahoning Township, where the doors were opened less than 10 minutes after 7 a.m., Dart said that election day is progressing smoothly.

Some voters have been calling the office for information regarding the number of votes they can cast for particular school districts. Lehighton and Jim Thorpe school boards have four seats up for four-year terms each, and Pleasant Valley has two seats for two-year school director positions. Lehighton also has two seats open for two-year terms.

The polls close at 8 p.m.

For any other election questions, contact the Carbon County Bureau of Elections/Voter Registration at 570-325-4801, or email Dart at lisadart@carboncounty.net.

When the polls close, check back for updated results.

Voters head to the polls Tuesday afternoon as flurries begin to fall. According to the National Weather Service, rain will be developing by 4 p.m. over all of northeast Pennsylvania. Rain will be changing to wet snow in the highest elevations by sundown and a small accumulation of wet snow is anticipated by 7 o`clockin parts of the Poconos. Elsewhere, even the lower elevations may see a mix of rain and wet snow develop between 4 and 7 p.m. but it probably won’t beaccumulating on the pavement. RON GOWER/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
